Ontario Government Grant Triples Support for Vulnerable Older Adults in Northumberland County
COBOURG, ON – On Friday, May 1, a representative from the office of MPP David Piccini joined Community Care Northumberland (CCN) to recognize a $456,600 Grow grant from the provincial government’s Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF).
This three-year investment will support the expansion of CCN's WrapAround for Older Adults program, transitioning it from a volunteer-led model a staff-led approach, and tripling its capacity to support older adults across Northumberland County.
“This is an incredible investment for our community,” said David Piccini, MPP, Northumberland Peterborough-South. “Our government is proud to support the work of Community Care Northumberland and the expansion of their WrapAround Program. By investing in this program, we are connecting 300 individuals with complex needs to the care they need, close to home.”
The WrapAround for Older Adults program is a person-centered, team-based planning process that develops individualized support plans for older adults with complex needs. Over the past four years, the program has supported 82 participants, with 34 successfully transitioned out following positive outcomes. It is currently supporting 46 active participants.
With support from the Ontario Trillium Foundation, the program will transition to a staff-led model to improve consistency, capacity, and continuity of care. Trained staff will each support 30–35 participants, while volunteers will continue in valued Wraparound Support Mentor roles. The expanded model will enable the program to support more than 100 older adults annually — reaching approximately 300 participants over the three-year funding period — while addressing key needs including housing, transportation, healthcare access, and social connection.
“This Ontario government grant is truly transformational for our community,” said Jordan Propser, CEO of Community Care Northumberland. “Northumberland County faces significant gaps in senior-directed services, and the WrapAround program addresses those needs head-on. With this investment, we can grow sustainably, serve more older adults with greater consistency and safety, and ensure that no one has to navigate complex challenges alone. We are deeply grateful to the Ontario Trillium Foundation and to MPP David Piccini for championing this vital work.”

Community Care Northumberland Invites Community to Give $100 of Care on GivingTuesday
Today marks GivingTuesday, the world’s largest generosity movement, a global day dedicated to celebrating giving and supporting meaningful causes. This year, Community Care Northumberland (CCN) is inviting the community to participate by donating $100 of Care to support vital programs that help neighbours across the county thrive.
"GivingTuesday reminds us that everyone can contribute to making a positive impact in our community," said Trish Baird, CEO of Community Care Northumberland. "A gift of $100 of Care goes a long way but even helping us spread the word or supporting neighbours in other ways makes a real difference. We are thankful for every act of generosity."
Every $100 donation can make an incredible impact, including:
- Offering 7 local rides to essential medical appointments
- Delivering 10 Hot Meals on Wheels
- Providing 2 Home Help visits
- Covering the installation and 3 months of monitoring for a Personal Distress Alarm
- Supporting compassionate end-of-life care at Ed’s House
Donations like $100 of Care don’t just provide immediate support - they help community members maintain independence and access essential services every day. One of the most critical ways CCN does this is through Transportation Services, which ensure seniors, adults living with disabilities, and those recovering from illness or injury can safely reach the care they need especially during the busy holiday season. In 2024 alone, CCN’s Transportation Services completed 33,576 essential drives, helping 1,463 clients access appointments reliably.
For neighbours like Marilyn, who face ongoing health challenges, these rides provide independence, dignity, and peace of mind. She says, “I am able to get to my appointments, and my driver is very patient and wonderful. I would be lost without you.”
Every act of support - whether it’s a donation of $20, $50, $100 or more, volunteering your time, or helping spread the word - strengthens the support, services, and connections that CCN provides. Your generosity helps neighbours stay safe, nourished, supported, and cared for in the place they call home.

Community Care Northumberland’s Ninth Annual Adopt a Grandparent Program Begins
For the ninth consecutive year, Community Care Northumberland will support seniors throughout the county this holiday season through the organization’s Adopt a Grandparent program.
This program spreads joy by surprising seniors who may be experiencing isolation or loneliness with meaningful gifts during the holiday season. Last year we reached over 130 “grandparents” across Northumberland County.
Trish Baird, Chief Executive Officer for Community Care Northumberland comments, “This program brings smiles of appreciation not only from our ‘Grandparents’ but from the many individuals and families who join together to support a holiday gift and from the volunteers and staff who deliver the gift. Adopt a Grandparent demonstrates the true spirit of the season and the generosity of our community.”
In a card received by Community Care Northumberland from an adopted grandparent last year, they wrote: "Your gifts meant so much to me. The few members of my very scattered family who had been here for my birthday had just left. The bird feeder went into immediate use, as my existing ones had rusted out. Four woodpeckers appeared at once, with the cardinals close behind. All the other lovely things were discovered, needed, and enjoyed. You made Christmas for me, my cat, and my dog. Thank you."
This heartfelt message highlights the meaningful impact of the program, bringing joy, comfort, and connection to people in our community during the holiday season.
This year, members of the community who are interested in adopting a grandparent can do so by calling Community Care Northumberland at 1-866-514-5774 or by emailing wellness@commcare.ca to be matched with a senior. Purchased gifts may be dropped off at a local office to be delivered to our ‘Grandparents’ by our volunteers the week before Christmas. Community Care Northumberland asks that all unwrapped gifts (gift bags or baskets are okay) be dropped off to a local office on or before Friday, December 5th. Individuals may also Adopt a Grandparent by donating to this program and Community Care Northumberland staff will do the shopping.
We kindly ask participants to refrain from including homemade baked goods. We ask that you include washing instructions for any handmade items, such as scarves or mittens. Other gift suggestions include gift cards for local stores or gift certificates for Community Care Northumberland programs, such as Meals on Wheels or Transportation.

During the show, two anonymous donations were announced, generously contributing a combined total of $12,500 toward the evening’s success. Following the performances, the casino floor officially opened, inviting guests to play, mingle, and celebrate for a great cause.
CCN extends its heartfelt thanks to the incredible sponsors who truly went All In to make Casino Royale possible.

Community Care Northumberland (CCN) is a non-profit charitable organization providing community support services to residents of Northumberland County. CCN's programs support older adults, caregivers, and individuals with complex needs to live safely and independently at home. The WrapAround for Older Adults program is the only program of its kind in Northumberland County, coordinating formal services and natural community supports into a unified care network. For more information, visit www.commcare.ca
The Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) is an agency of the Ontario government with a mission to build healthy and vibrant communities across the province. In 2025–26, OTF invested nearly $107M into 746 community projects. Projects aim to enhance economic well-being, foster more active lifestyles, support child and youth development, provide spaces for people to come together and connect, and create a more sustainable environment.
