Free Exercise Programs

We have organized free exercise classes for seniors.  They are not intimidating and participants are encouraged to go at their own speed. Led by trained health care professionals selected by us, you will be asked to complete a screening questionnaire to help us ensure your safety before starting.  We offer this program in: Bewdley, Campbellford, Cobourg, Colborne, Hastings, Port Hope and Warkworth, Ontario.

YMCA AT HOME

The YMCA is committed to the health and wellness of our communities.  Stay active at home with workouts for all ages and stages.  Keep your mind healthy and strong, enjoy fun and healthy activities for the whole family.  There is even physical activity to keep kids active and healthy.

Personal Distress Alarms (PDA)

A PDA is a small portable transmitter that is worn as a pendant or wristband and along with a small tabletop unit, provides clients with 24-hour support. In the case of emergency or distress, the client pushes the button on the PDA that sends a signal to the monitoring station, where trained operators immediately dispatch help.

Falls Prevention Program

Key statistics in Canada

  • Falls are the leading cause of injury among older adults
  • Falls in older adults account for $2 billion in direct health care costs annually
  • Over 1/3 of older adults will be admitted to long-term care after hospitalization for a fall
  • Falling can lead to depression, mobility problem and loss of independence.

 We Help You Find Your Balance

Our free falls prevention classes aim to help seniors decrease these negative effects and potential injuries associated with falls and near falls. We have trained health care professionals leading these classes with several location options in Bewdley, Campbellford, Cobourg, Colborne, Hastings, Port Hope and Warkworth, Ontario.

What is a Falls Prevention Class?

  • 30 minutes of falls prevention education (real life scenarios on trips, hazards, lighting, effects of medications, etc. to increase the participant’s ability to make positive changes to their environment and choose safer ways to do activities.)
  • 30 minutes of light exercise that are designed to work on strength and balance and balance for seniors.
  • There is absolutely no cost for seniors to participate in them
