What is World Hospice and Palliative Care Day?

It is a unified day of action to celebrate and support hospice and palliative care around the world. Voices for Hospices is a wave of concerts taking place on October 10th, 2015.

What are the aims of World Hospice and Palliative Care Day?

To share our vision to increase the availability of hospice and palliative care throughout the world by creating opportunities to speak out about the issues.

To raise awareness and understanding of the needs – medical, social, practical, spiritual – of people living with a life limiting illness and their families.

To raise funds to support and develop hospice and palliative care services around the world.

The Hospice Song Challenge

Do you love to sing?  Play music?  We challenge you to make a cover of “The Hospice Song - Let Us Be The Ones Who Cared” in honour of Voices for Hospice.  The objective of this challenge is to raise awareness of our Hospice Palliative Care program in Northumberland County and take part in a global awareness initiative.

Marie-Jeanne (M-J) Haylestrom, a Hospice Palliative Care volunteer with Community Care Northumberland was inspired to bring this biennial awareness event to Northumberland County again.  She in collaboration with Singer Marielle (Ella) Malleau created a song aptly called “The Hospice Song - Let Us Be The Ones Who Cared” that captures the essence of their volunteer experience with hospice palliative clients.

In the past, Community Care Northumberland has held a concert but this year we are asking community members to record their own version of The Hospice Song and post it to  Facebook Page or directly onto our You Tube channel.  Kids, choirs, bands, individuals – everyone can participate.
